It depends on what data you want to collect. Cycle time? Temperature? Pressure?All of these can be done with aftermarket sensors and data acquistion equipment. If you do not have the expertise in-house to implement something like this, I would suggest that you call up either your molding machine rep for some referrals or a systems integrator. Either should be able to help you.

My idea would dramatically increase the output of injection molding machines. It is preposterously simple and requires no new technology. I need to know what I can do to profit from this. Can I patent the process and sell it? If I was to implement the idea in an injection molding company (which I do not own or work for at present), I would enjoy a significant competitive advantage for a short time. However, this idea is so simple to implement it would quickly spread throught the industry, erasing the competitive advantage.

I have an acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene recycling institution. I mostly regrind HDPE crate, PP and PS vesture hangers, and bundle LDPE and PP film. Hard to say. small molders can prolly be had for $ 50K or less. Big presses can cost 100’s of thousands. As far as prodcution goes that would incur cost as well. you’d need an operator, die setter, etc. There are other cost involved in ancillary equipment too. If big you might need a crane to change molds, not to mention an equipped tool shop for touchups and repair. EDM’s and other machining equipment adds up quick.
